In its first outreach initiative, the team conducted an awareness session with 40 women and girls, focusing on menstrual hygiene and sanitation.

1 . Menstrual Health Awareness & Sanitary Kit Drive
Our Impact So Far
As part of the UMMEED community service initiative, students organized a winter clothing donation drive supporting underserved communities. With generous contributions from students and the local community, over 700 pieces of clothing were collected and distributed across multiple slum settlements.
During field visits, students witnessed families living in temporary shelters with minimal protection from harsh winter conditions. Many children lacked warm clothing and proper footwear. The drive provided essential warmth and comfort while becoming a powerful experiential learning opportunity for students - demonstrating how thoughtful collective action can create immediate and meaningful change.

3. A Visit to Cheshire Home
Continuing our mission of connection, Ummeed members recently visited Cheshire Home, a residential sanctuary for individuals with diverse physical and intellectual abilities.
While the students proudly carried over 250 items for donation—including clothing, bedsheets, and daily necessities—what truly lingered was not the act of giving, but the immense warmth of the people we met. During the tour, our girls interacted with residents who have called Cheshire Home their sanctuary for over a decade. Their amiability and open-heartedness made connecting effortless. Our students were particularly inspired by the residents' remarkable creativity, beautifully displayed in the intricate embroidery and handicrafts they had made themselves.
The visit culminated in the activity center, where everyone gathered for a session of prayers and chanting. It created a beautifully peaceful atmosphere of pure togetherness.
As we walked out, we found ourselves looking back one last time. For a few moments, the world seemed to slow down. We left with fuller hearts, carrying memories of countless smiles, quiet kindness, and the simplest, purest moments of human connection. It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the smallest gestures leave the deepest imprints long after the day itself has passed.
4. The Menstrual Health & Hygiene Outreach
True empowerment begins when we replace silence with understanding. Recently, the members of Ummeed visited a local NGO shelter to conduct a vital awareness session on menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and the stigmas that still surround it.
Rather than a conventional lecture, the girls cultivated a space of joy. The day began with ice-breaking games, laughter, and dancing, instantly dissolving hesitations and creating an inclusive environment where everyone felt free to express themselves. Through an interactive "Sahi Ya Galat" (True or False) quiz, the students gently guided conversations around the menstrual cycle, self-care, and the necessity of breaking age-old stereotypes. The session concluded with the distribution of customized Ummeed care bags, thoughtfully curated with sanitary pads, chocolates, and handwritten thank-you notes.
We arrived as visitors, yet through shared laughter and open dialogue, it felt as though we were home. We came hoping to teach, but left with a profound realization: empathy is not about measuring the distance between people; it is about how effortlessly we can make that distance disappear.
